Philosophy: Derivation of Earth Colony 1's Mission

To ensure survival of humankind it is essential to establish self-sufficient settlements in multiple locations.  The more these settlements are dispersed, the better the chances of surviving a localized disaster.  Humankind's dependence on the Earth risks extinction of the species.

Humankind should strive to mitigate this risk as rapidly as possible by establishing a first settlement, achieving independence from Earth resources, and then expanding to additional settlements.  Each settlement should carry with it humankind's scientific knowledge and historical information in order to preserve humankind's rich culture and provide each  settlement the best chance of survival.

Every human being has a stake in accomplishing this mission.  Earth Colony 1 is established as a focal point for people that would like to help realize human settlement in space.  Donations collected by Earth Colony 1 will be used solely to support this mission.  Earth Colony 1 will fund scientific research to: overcome the technical challenges in establishing a settlement, identify an ideal location for a first settlement, establish a first settlement, and help that settlement attain independence from Earth resources.
